“Begum” Women’s Rights Committee Awareness Program and Concerns about Increasing Violence Against Women in Afghanistan
The “Begum” Women’s Rights Committee, affiliated with the Afghanistan Hazaras Culture and Solidarity Association (AHCSA), organized a special awareness program at the association’s hall to address the growing concern about violence against women, particularly digital violence, in Afghanistan. This program aimed to raise public awareness about women’s rights and to identify strategies to combat increasing violence.
During the program, Fehime Jafari, the head of the “Begum” Women’s Rights Committee, provided a detailed explanation of what constitutes digital violence and its various forms. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness by presenting striking statistics on the increase in cases of digital violence against women in Afghanistan and worldwide.
Zahra Ahmedi discussed different types of violence against women and possible preventive measures. She highlighted the deteriorating legal status of women in Afghanistan and the noticeable increase in violence cases since the Taliban came to power, emphasizing the need for support for Afghan women.
Participants in the program discussed various topics, including the legal status of women in Afghanistan, the increase in violence against women during the Taliban era, and the role of Afghan women living abroad in advocating for the rights of women in their home country. Participants stressed the importance of unity and solidarity among women in the fight against violence and gender discrimination.
The participants expressed deep concern about the increasing violence against women in Afghanistan. They noted that recent developments in Afghanistan and the restrictions imposed on women have made their situation even more fragile.
Afghan women living abroad discussed their role in advocating for the rights of women in Afghanistan. They emphasized the importance of networking, information sharing, and lobbying at the international level to support Afghan women.
